Devil's Throat (The River Book 6) Kindle Edition

4.6 4.6 out of 5 stars 128 ratings

"One of the most exciting new series!"

Far away, in the remote deserts of southern Nevada, lies a cave with secrets: strangely twisted creatures, mass deaths, and a hole so deep, anything that goes in, never gets out.

Steven’s son Jason has been taken to this desolate place by someone bent on vengeance. Steven and his father Roy pursue them in a desperate attempt to save Jason’s life.

However, the River is different here, where fallout from nuclear testing has altered the ghosts and entities inhabiting the many abandoned mines and hidden caves surrounding Devil’s Throat. Steven and Roy are on unfamiliar ground; they seek the help of locals Winn and Deem to save Jason from a horrific ghost town, once submerged, now revealed.

Devil's Throat is a fast-paced and suspenseful paranormal novel that confronts evil, ghosts, and the dead.

Devil's Throat is the sixth book in The River series. There are currently nine titles available in the series, and an additional three titles in a spin-off series, The Downwinders.

Praise for The River series from Amazon readers:

“Truly scary.”

"Finally found a book that got under my nerves!"

“Couldn't put it down...wanted the story to go on and on.”

“Very few authors can pull me in immediately and make me feel as though I were reading about old friends. Stephen King always has, and I can now add Michael Richan to the list.”

"Awesome ghost story with wonderful characters and a great plot!"

“Some of the most delightful reading I have done in a long time.”

"This was a great horror book. I absolutely loved it, and I know you will too! Keep the lights on when reading!"

Editorial Reviews

From the Author

  • Devil's Throat is the sixth book in The River series. Each book in the series is novel length (Devil's Throat is over 52k words) and can be read stand-alone. However, like any series, reading them in order is more satisfying. Devil's Throat, in particular, will be better enjoyed if The Suicide Forest is read before it.
  • The order of the series, as of 8/8/15, is: The Bank of the River, Residual, A Haunting in Oregon, Ghosts of Our Fathers, Eximere, The Suicide Forest, Devil's Throat, The Diablo Horror, The Haunting at Grays Harbor It Walks At Night, and The Cycle of the Shen.
  • In the Kindle edition of the book, a complimentary first chapter of Blood Oath, Blood River is included. Deem and Winn, characters from Devil's Throat, continue in a new series, The Downwinders.
  • More titles in both series are coming!

I'm really not one to write reviews, but after finishing this book, I just had to.
I started reading this series with the second book, "A Haunting In Oregon."
I figured for 99 cents, even if it was a mediocre book, I didn't lose much.
Just, WOW! I finished that book, and immediately bought all the rest of the books in the series! This series is one of the most creative and freshest take on the supernatural that I've read in a long time!
Sorry that this really is a review of all of the books, not just "Devil's Throat," but trust me, if you like horror, thriller, mystery, and/or family drama in your books, get these books pronto!!
And Mr Richan, please keep writing!!!!!

I'm an avid Richan fan. This is the 6th novel in this series that never disappoints. The book stands alone easily, but following the series is one of the most satisfying experiences I've had. Devil's Throat will appeal to several different types of readers. It has horror, thriller, scifi, environmental disaster and paranormal all wrapped up in one exciting well written novel. This story kept me on my toes throughout. You will only be disappointed in this novel if you choose not to read it, so get it immediately and prepare for a reader's dream date with a novel.

I have enjoyed reading all the books in the River series which follows Roy & Steven, father-son ghostbusters who are ‘gifted’ and use their medium abilities to see into ‘the River’, the extraordinary and frightening paranormal dimension. While each book is a stand alone story, I recommend that ghost horror fans read the series in sequence to be able to follow the author’s development of the main characters, the other mediums who help them, the various haunting scenarios, and the details of the paranormal dimension- filled with artifacts, ghosts, demons and surprising alternative realities.
Devil’s Throat has a new plot which incorporates the history of Nevada’s nuclear testing. Roy & Steven have to go to Nevada to help Steven’s son. They must rely on a likable pair of local gifteds to guide them through a ghost town overrun by ghosts and creatures. Radioactive fallout mutates the living creatures in the area, and incredibly, it mutates the ghosts and creatures of the paranormal dimension too-making them more dangerous than others elsewhere. I could not put the book down (as usual!) until I found out what happened to the end. I have more questions left unanswered and I hope the author continues the series further.

The whole series is compelling. I find myself settling in at night and getting lost in these books. They are a refreshing new take on the paranormal work and the people who can connect to it. I love all the characters and how they interact and connect. this book introduces us to the Downwinders as they interact. the author suggests that after this book you read the first of the Downwinders. I have to agree!

I binge read the first 5 books in the series over the holidays. I'm enjoying how each book becomes more complex as the character's talents increase. Mr. Richan's books are a fun read and provide a great escape. I love sci fi and horror and these provide that level of thinking that makes you wonder what else goes on around us that we aren't aware of. Nicely done and looking forward to plowing through the rest.

Did not see where this book ended up until the end, nice change compared to a lot of what you read..

More adventures of father and son ghost destructors, Stephen and Roy. Soon to add more adventures with Jason, the son and grandson of the two master Ghostbusters. They gain support in their quests to rid others of evil from a network of gifted friends. It all adds up to scary good fun. I'm anticipating the next book of their adventures.
